Pick of the week - Emma Jane

Here's a narrowboat we saw listed with Whilton Marina and we like it!  nb Emma Jane priced at £54,950.

We're interested in opinions on Pro-Build and Piper.  What do you think??

Positives : we like the colour, the interior is light, excellent cupboard space in the galley, lovely finish
Negatives : doesn't appear to be much shelving/cupboards in saloon, bed needs extending or turning, needs cratch and cover, we'd prefer a slightly shorter boat

Hi Elly. Interestingly this specification lists Pro Build as the hull builder and Piper as the fitter. Both companies are known for fabricating steel hulls, but possibly Pro Build is better known as a fitter, where Piper are very well known as boat builders of the completed item, in many guises, narrowboat, widebeam and Dutch barge. They can provide a completed boat from start to finish, from hull to fit out. They are quite a large concern, and well respected, having been in the business since the 1960's. The business is still family owned, having been founded by the father of the current owner. The father is noted for experimenting with underwater hull designs which would provide a very good handling boat, with a straight swim, and little wash. These designs are still used by the company today, but this is irrelevant here, as this states a Pro Build hull. Pro Build appear to have been involved in many "high end" fit outs, but I have no further info on them. I also have no info on the possibility of the two companies having links in any way. Piper boats have a very detailed website you can study.
