To date : 973 miles, 693 locks
We were off again at 9am this morning, cruising past the enormous Wedgewood building at Barlaston. We enjoyed the cruise and the weather was pretty good for the most part. A couple of light showers but that's all.
Mick worked the locks today - I've hurt my leg! Some of the locks on the approach into Stoke are extremely deep. I don't much like being on the boat in those locks but today there wasn't much choice in the matter.
We had our fingers crossed that we'd get a mooring by The Toby Carvery at Festival Park. Last time we were here it was busy with lurkers who were swapping spots with each other. The centre spot was free right in front of the Toby and it must have been a 57ft boat that left here as we just managed to squeeze in. Phew! We're glad we don't have a longer boat!
It was right on lunch time when we arrived so we went in for a carvery lunch at £5.99 each. Can't beat that. In the afternoon Mick went to browse B&Q and I went to the cinema to watch The Book Thief. We will stay another night here after tonight and then we're thinking of heading down the Caldon Canal.

Hope you do the Caldon - it's fantastic. Having said that, the first bit isn't anything to write home about, but don't be put off. Once you're out of Stoke it's great. The Leek Arm is worth a visit, and there's a lovely mooring by the tunnel, and down the other way to Froghall is beautiful. Consall Forge is one of my all time favourite moorings. It really feels as though you're completely in the middle of nowhere. Looking forward to reading about your trip.
